The Liberal Democrat Christian Forum is made up of Christians from all denominations who are members of the Liberal Democrat Party.

Although Forum members may differ in their views on particular issues, we share a common worldview.

The reality of God

Christians believe — unashamedly — in the reality of an all powerful, creator God.We believe that this God takes a personal interest in the well-being and life of each person.

The dignity of human beings

Liberal Democrat Christians believe that God made all people — male, female, young, old, of all ethnic identities, beliefs and backgrounds — equal. Men and women are made in the image of God. Each one shares a common dignity and is individually unique and precious.

The effect of sin

We believe that although created equal and perfect, all human beings share in a common inability to pursue their own moral beliefs consistently. This is what the Bible and Christian theology refers to as 'sin'. Sin separates people from each other and from God. The effects of sin are visible and apparent in the world around us — but it is possible by human action including political action to repair many of the effects of sin.

Grace

Christians believe that it is not God's desire that people should continue to be separated from Him, but rather that the broken relationship should be restored. Christians believe that this restoration is only through Jesus Christ. They believe that his death pays the penalty of the law, and that it is therefore possible for sin to be cancelled out. This cancellation is not something which the human race has deserved — rather, it is something unmerited, known as Grace.

Liberal Democrat Christians believe that grace should be the characteristic of all of our dealings with each other. We believe in second chances, third chances and fourth chances. We don't believe that anybody should ever be written off by society.
